The image above shows the sculpture ‘Entire Half’ in a side-by-side comparison of the digital visualization and a photo of the real world sculpture. This sculpture is the result of my artistic process that combines both digital and physical techniques.
I start with some raw handmade sketches, but then I design the sculpture entirely on the computer using different software. I create images based on the 3D model (digital twin) that allow me to experiment with different perspectives and light and shadow effects in different contexts (see an example below). I also rework the model if needed, until I am satisfied with the final design.
Every sculpture in my portfolio is not only a material object, but also a representation of an idea that can be expressed in different ways. Additionally I want to challenge the viewer to think about the relationship between reality and illusion, and the creativity at the boundaries of digital art and physical sculpture. The digital twin and rendered photos and animations are not only the blueprint of the real world object, but also valuable assets that can be used as NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
